Matthew George
We announce the death of Matthew George, 72, of Colihaut, who resided in River Estate, Canefield. He was a gospel minister and writer, former national and regional cricketer, and labour commissioner in the public service who died on Thursday, 14th May 2026.
He left to mourn:

Children: Supranee George-Laville, Suprian George, Abigail Dorival-George (daughterin-law), Philbert Laville (son-in-law)
Grand-Children: Bri’Hanna, Benaiah, Etana, Abishai and Sage.

He will also be remembered by: The Colihaut, River Estate and Canefield Communities. Pastors, families and members of the Gospel Mission and Baptist Churches of Canefield, Colihaut and across the island. Many friends and families from the Christian and Evangelical communities of faith here and abroad. Numerous teammates and opponents in the cricket fraternity nationally, regionally and in the former Christian Cricket League. Former participants in the Canada and Florida Farm programs and others he served and worked with in the division of labour and other departments in the public service.
Numerous close friends and colleagues, to include: Royston, Nicholas, Georgie and Virginia.
An opportunity will be available for viewing of the late Matthew George, visitation of his family and tribute & condolence sharing on Thursday, July 2 between 4:30 pm and 6:00 pm at the Canefield Gospel Mission church building.
His funeral service is scheduled to take place at the Coulibistrie Gospel Mission church building on Saturday, July 4 from 1:30 pm, preceded by viewing of the body from 12:30 pm. Burial will take place at the L’anse Cola Cemetery.
