SANDRA ROSEMARY BELLAMY, PHD., known to many as “Sandy” or “San”, of #27 Central Avenue, Hanson Crescent, St. George on Saturday, March 28, 2026, after a brief illness. In accordance with Sandy’s wishes, we celebrated her life with a private service and burial at Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens on Friday April 17, 2026.
Beloved daughter of the late Clarence “Rudy” Bellamy and Edlah Bellamy.
Cherished sister of Cheryl Bellamy (DGM Financial Group), Dawn Grosvenor (Alleyne Real Estate) and Trudy Bellamy (CG United Insurance).
Loving aunt of Kristina Grosvenor, Nicholas Grosvenor and Raedon Bellamy.
Great-aunt of Reign Grosvenor.
Adored niece of Inez Hinkson and Darwin Bellamy.
Cousin of Kerwin and Christopher Bellamy, Deana and Denise Bellamy, Michelle Menzies, Linda Grant, Geoffrey Bellamy, Dale Douglas, Ricky and Derrick Hinkson, and many other cherished cousins (Barbados and UK). She was predeceased by aunts and uncles (Barbados and UK).
Sandy attended The St. Michael School (1968–1975), where she developed an early interest in science. She earned a BSc in Biology (UWI Cave Hill). Influenced by her upbringing around sugarcane in St Andrew and St Joseph, completed a PhD in Biology (1993) written on sugarcane leaf demography, bud germination, establishment and root growth.
She built her career as an Agronomist and Researcher, first with the Sugar Cane Variety Testing Station (Ministry of Agriculture) and later the Agronomy Research and Variety Testing Unit (BAMC) where she became Head of Unit in 2011 until retiring in 2022. She specialized in developing high yield, disease resistant sugarcane varieties suited to local soil and climate, improving the sugar product. In 2016 she co-authored “Sugar Cane Farming in Barbados”, a key guide for farmers on technical aspects of growth, variety development and production.
Family was the center of her life. Grounded in her parents’ love and values, she was fiercely protective of her family; kind, and generous. Known for her analytical mind, wit, and diplomacy, she was the go-to for sound advice both personally and professionally.
Deeply creative, she expressed herself through art, sewing, carpentry, masonry, and painting, with her handiwork filling her family’s homes. Though her passing has left a deep void, her family finds comfort in knowing her legacy lives on in them. May she rest in peace.
