1934 – 2026
Enid Eugenia Austin, affectionately known and loved by many as Jean, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at the age of 91.
A retired Registered Psychiatric Geriatric Nurse and Cosmetologist, Enid devoted her professional life to the compassionate care of the elderly living with mental illness. Nursing was more than her profession—it was her calling. Through decades of dedicated service, she offered comfort, dignity, and kindness to countless patients and their families, leaving an enduring legacy of compassion and excellence. In her retirement years she volunteered as the secretary for the Alzheimers Association and volunteered as a nurse at a local clinic, and for wellness events through James Street Methodist Church. She also loved doing hair and became very creative in her craft.
Born to the late Iris and Lawrence M. Bailey, as the 2nd child of 5, Enid was the cherished granddaughter of the late William H. Yearwood and Augusta Yearwood, and David Adolphus Bayley and Agatha Janette Franklin- Bayley. She was raised with strong values of love, faith, integrity, resilience, and service—qualities that shaped every aspect of her life.
She was the beloved wife of Mr. Victor L. D. Austin and the devoted mother of Victor Jr. M. Austin, Dr. Tanya C. M. Austin, and the late Anthony I. Austin, whose memory she carried lovingly in her heart.
She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Natasha Forde-Austin, Derry Austin, Michael Austin,Ryder Ringgoldand Khristina Austin, and a treasured great-grandmother to Rueben Simpson-Austin, Remi Simpson-Austin, Amelia Austin, Oliver Austin, and Elliott Austin. Her greatest joy was witnessing the growth of each generation, always offering unconditional love, wisdom, encouragement, and prayer.
Enid was the loving sister of Dr. Dennis L. Bailey and the late Mrs. Hyacinth A. Charles, Dr. Colin D. H. Bailey, and Mr. Franklyn Bailey.
She also leaves to cherish her memory her daughters-in-law Natalia Austin and Sharon Forde, her brother-in-law Charleus Charles, and fondly remembered her late sister-in-law Clotelle Dove and mother-in-law Alma Jordan.
She was a devoted aunt to Dr. Keisha Y. Nieto, Dana H. Charles, Charly Charles, Steve Charles, Maya Bailey, Dr. Michael Bailey, Dr. Richard Bailey, Robert Bailey, Sara McGhee, Mara Bailey, and Heather Allen.
She was also the proud great-aunt of Laila Brown, Kamar Brown, Ava Nieto, Matthew Nieto, Jayden Rowe, Angelique Joseph, Barron Joseph, Alex Bailey, Ayianna Bailey, Kainoa Bailey, Zico Bailey, Brice Bailey, Kylian Bailey, Kharee Bailey, Janelle Allen, Greg Allen and the late Kennedy Bailey.
Great-great aunt of Isele Allen, Aisosa Allen, Julia Johnson and Evan Johnson.
She is fondly remembered by her cousins Muriel Forde, Avril Boucher, Kathy-Ann Charles, Kim Forde, Betty Watson, Chieftain Watson, Barbara Clarke, Pamela Gill, Christopher Gill and close childhood dear friends Tom Hinds, Evadnee Yearwood, Anthea and Tony Hudson. She maintained a wide circle of relatives, lifelong friends, former colleagues, neighbors, patients, clients, and all whose lives she touched.
Enid will be remembered for her gentle strength, big heart, unwavering devotion to family, her generous spirit, infectious laughter, bright smile, quiet wisdom, and steadfast faith. She gave of herself selflessly always, loved deeply, and lived a life marked by grace, resilience, and compassion.
Though she has departed from our sight, the love she shared and the legacy she leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

A service of celebration and thanksgiving will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at the Chapel of Coral Ridge Memorial Gardens where relatives and friends are asked to meet at 10:00 a.m. The cortege will then proceed to Westbury Cemetery for the interment. No mourning colors by special request, African attire is welcomed. Flowers may be sent to Lyndhurst Funeral Home no later than 7:30 a.m. on Saturday.
