HOOD – The death is announced of CALBERT CLEOPHAS, aged 97, of Mount 1, St. Peter, better known as “Joe Grimes”, “Shah”, “Clee”, or “Yade”. Former Engineering Supervisor of Mount Gay Distilleries. A true stalwart of the company who dedicated his working life to the distillery, starting at the age of 16 and serving faithfully until his retirement at age 65.
Husband of the late Gwendolyn Hood.
Father of Winston Collymore, former CEO of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital; Jeremy Collymore, Chair of the Advisory Board, Disaster Risk Reduction Center, UWI; former Executive Director of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA); Ian Collymore, retired Director of Foreign Exchange and Export Credits, Central Bank of Barbados, and COO of www.barbadosauctions.com and www.bajanlist.com; Henderson Hood, retired IT Manager (Canada); Collis Hood, Realtor (US); Fernando Hood, Senior Programmer Analyst; Pamela Babb, Solicitor (UK); Tricica Boyce, retired Auditor and the late Stephen Hood.
Brother of Edmena Scott and Audrey McDonald (of the USA), Irvine Phillips, Earla Mascoll and the late Melvin Hood and Eunice Bowen.
Grandfather of Dr. Delores Corbin; Cassandra Taylor; Nigel Ricardo, Stefan, and Karina Collymore (UK); Chrystel and Cara Hood (USA) and seven great-grandchildren.
Uncle of Cynthia Balfour of the UK; Sherrol Green; Elliot, Rhona, Anthony, Andrew, David, Peter and Michael Hood; Brenda, Heather, Victor, Arlene and Curtis Bowen; Tony and Mayleen Scott, Wendy Napier, Ann and Robert McDonald of the USA; Lorna, Anita, Donald and Helen Mascoll of Canada.

The funeral of the late Calbert Cleophas Hood leaves Lyndhurst Funeral Home, Passage Road, St. Michael on Friday, January 9th, 2026, for Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, St. Peter, where relatives and friends are asked to meet at 2:00 p.m. for the service and interment. Flowers may be sent to Lyndhurst Funeral Home no later than 11:00 a.m. on Friday.

I would like to express my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Calbert Hood on his passing. Special greetings to Jeremy (my old schoolmate, colleague and friend of many decades ) and Ian Collymore. From all report he was a very supportive dad. Keep strong.
