Leone Querino

LEONE CATHERINE QUERINO, NÉE DEHER, passed away peacefully at 101 years old, predeceased by her beloved brother Francis Deher. She is survived by her three daughters; Sandra (Peter), Marcelyn and Annette (Basil), her grandchildren; Laurie (Michael), Carolyn (Donald), Dominic, Tania (Joel), Melissa (Jose), Kristian (Megan), as well as 11 great grandchildren.
Leone, otherwise affectionately known as ‘LCQ’, was fiercely independent. Born in Barbados, she spent her childhood years in Guadeloupe, fluent in French she maintained that language throughout her life. Never shy to express herself or to give advice like “You are your own manager” so act responsibly.
After her hairdressing career, Leone subsequently owned the Hut Boutique in Hastings known as a ‘fashion stop’ for imported ladies clothing.
The family would like to thank Dr. Claudia. Martindale as well as Faith Nursing Services for their compassionate and loving care. These caregivers permitted Leone to enjoy independent living in her condo until the end.
A Mass of Celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church, where relatives and friends are asked to meet at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive condolences at the church from 10 a.m. prior to the Mass. Her ashes will be interred in the niche wall of St. Dominics’s Church Grotto. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Dominic’s Parish. Please note that all COVID-19 protocols will be in effect.

The family invites you to view the live streaming of the service; to view, please click here.

It was a privilege to know Leone and her beautiful daughters and their family. And an honour to work for them, taking care of Leone....it was a teachable time, whereby I learnt a lot from this very assertive centenarian....you have done your job on earth, so sleep on with the angels...my sincere condolences to Sandra, Marceline, Annette and family from Lynda

The time I shared with Maman is precious. I owe my Soca dancing technique to her "Don't move your hips so much". What a privilege it was to spend time with such a great, strong, and beautiful lady.

I am sorry I cannot be there with you in person. Sending my love to everyone - Annette, Marcy, Sandra + all of the family and friends that are feeling the loss of LCQ. Love you all!
