Johnny Haynes was a jovial, energetic, friendly, fun loving, hospitable, community-minded, approachable gentleman. He had a suggestive smile that somehow communicated that there was more in his thought process at the time the smile appeared than what was being articulated. He often left you to guess what he was thinking.
I first met Johnny in the 1970s when I attended the AYPA at St.Silas Anglican Church on Saturday evenings. Always the life of the party, he had a wit and dry humour that often left his audience in stitches and according to a mutual friend Cliffe Codrington " that boy was so crazy you could only but love him...." He was a natural leader and knew how to be the centre of a conversation.
John engaged you on almost any subject matter, whether it was politics, religion, insurance, sports or business in general. He was a people's person who knew how to make you feel comfortable around him.
He loved to danced. That was his passion and like Oprah Winfrey, Johnny believed that “Every day brings a chance for you to draw in a breath, kick off your shoes, and dance.” ― Oprah Winfrey
He was loved by most people who met him and was very, very popular.
Though on opposite sides of the political divide he never disrespected me during our many spirited arguments at the Saturday Puddin and Souse limes at my cousin Clytie Marshall/Atherley in Orange Hill.
Jonathan we shall surely miss you. Our debates will not be the same. There will be no one there insisting on a cup of tea like you did and no one as enthusiastic to get to the Saturday night dancing classes like you wanted too. Your departure has created a void.
On behalf of your friends who enjoyed your company on Puddin and Souse Saturdays, Newland and Clytie Atherley (Host and Hostess), Malcolm Bovell, Shurland Robinson , Grafton Small, Clennell Bynoe, Bentley Layne and Ralph Boyce among others, we wish to express our sincere condolences to your friends and family especially your brother Gay.

The funeral leaves Lyndhurst Funeral Home, Passage Road, St. Michael on Friday, March 03, 2017 for St. Peter Parish Church, where relatives and friends are asked to meet at 1:00 p.m. for the service. The cortege will then proceed to St. James Cemetery for the interment. Flowers may be sent to Lyndhurst Funeral Home no later than 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
