Sincere condolences to the family and friends of my old friend and schoolmate John Jones.
We first met at the residence of the late Mr. J.O Morris in Pinfold Street who gave private
tuition at his home. At that time Johnny's family lived in Roebuck Street upstairs Straughn's
Garage. John was a cousin of Peter, Philip and Michael Straughn. All of us were also schoolmates at St. Matthews Primary School where Mr. Morris became Headmaster prior to being at St, Giles where my father the late Mr. Harrell G. Massiah taught under him. WE sat beside each other at St. Matthews and later at Harrison College where we were in first to fifth form together. I also remember batting in the nets when he struck me painfully in the family jewels bowling at me. He was a gentleman. After emigrating to Canada in 1978 I never
saw him again until I returned home to work from 2001 to 2011. I was then deputy senior land surveyor at the Ministry of Transport of Works and went into Caribbean Home Insurance to insure my truck not knowing her was the Manager. We were both delighted to see each other again. In tribute to my old friend and schoolmate I quote from the classic work of Virgil's Aeneid which we both translated at Harrison College under Mr. H.W.B. St. John " The Birdy". I quote " No day that passes shall remove you from the memory of time"
Rest In Peace "Johnny"
