It is with great sadness that we, as a family express our deepest condolences on the passing of our dear friend, Maurice. We extend our deepest sympathy to Grace and the entire family.
As a young student, Maurice โ€“ Sarkese - as he was called by his school mates in Grenada ( a name which he automatically acquired because that was the nickname given to his father), had an outstanding record as a sportsman and athlete. He was Captain of the Grenada Boys Secondary Schoolโ€™s cricket team where he exercised strong leadership, kindness and patience in his quiet way. He was so talented that he suddenly became a formidable fast bowler in his last year at school. That was remarkable as he was never known to be a bowler until he tried it then. He made many friends through his prowess as a cricketer and was well liked by all his teammates in the sporting disciplines. He also represented his school ( the GBSS) in football as well.
The qualities of leadership and caring for friends, family and community, stayed with him as he studied, then launched and established his life-long practice as a medical doctor specializing in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Today, even as we mourn his passing we have every reason to celebrate his life, his invaluable contribution to the world in which he lived, the quiet encouragement and support he gave to everyone who needed it.
Dr. Maurice Smith was our lifelong friend from the Grenada leg of his journey. We will miss him and remember him with extreme fondness. He will always be in our hearts.
The McGuire Family.
