To Mark, Noel, and all extant family: My brother John, and I extend our heartfelt condolences to you. In less than a year, you have lost both your Mom and Dad, and we understand how deep your grieving must be. I use an excerpt from G. B. Shaw's "The true Joy in Life" to attempt to highlight R. Bernard's long life: Shaw writes...."life to me is no brief candle, but a splendid torch, of which I've got hold for a brief time; and I want to make that torch burn as brightly as possible before passing it on to future generations." I recall working with Bernard at Cable and Wireless, St. Lawrence. Bernard was not only a genial gentleman, but a fastidious, meticulous, person who always brought efficiency, and preciseness to his work. I will always remember his extreme generosity to my brother John, and me, whenever we returned to Barbados to visit. Bernard had an encyclopaedic knowledge of the social and cultural scene in Barbados, loved and played classical piano, danced, and had a full appreciation for the flowers of Barbados. He lived a long and full life, and one can be assured that his torch of generosity and kindness burns brightly, that as he rests peacefully, he has passed his torch of a well, and fully-lived life to future generations of his family and friends. Blessings, and continue to rest in Peace, my friend Bernard.
