Condolences to the family of Orlando Marville
from Cardinal Warde and Dinah Sah

Dear Anita and others of Orlandoโ€™s family,

We express our heartfelt condolences to you during this extremely difficult time, and hope that all of you are coping as much as possible given the circumstances. We were deeply saddened and shocked by the news which reached us here in Massachusetts the evening of August 22. Anita, we tried to call and emailed as well, and hoped you had received our messages.

As the family knows, Orlando and Cardinal were very close friends for more than 30 years. They first met in Brussels when Orlando was Ambassador of Barbados to Brussels. They shared many interests, especially a passion for making the Caribbean a better place for all, as well as tennis. Orlando was a tremendous intellectual with a vast knowledge of virtually every subject, and he continuously entertained us with fascinating stories and anecdotes on every topic imaginable. He was a great advocate of our efforts to promote STEM in the Caribbean, writing news articles about the SPISE program, in addition to being the humanities/Caribbean Unity instructor since we started SPISE in 2012.

One of Orlando's favorite Caribbean islands was Dominica, and we have very fond memories of joining Anita and Orlando there in 2012 just before Christmas (photo below - at Tia's hot springs). We last saw you both at the annual SPISE re-union at our home in Barbados in late December 2019 (photo below). Orlando touched many lives around the world and we feel so fortunate that this included us. He was a very dear friend and we will miss him tremendously.

Due to COVID-19, we have not been to Barbados since early January and are hibernating at our home in the Boston area. Anita - we will try to come to Barbados this coming Christmas, if it is safe to travel and look forward to seeing you then. Please let us know if there is anything we can do from here.

With much love,
Cardinal Warde & Dinah Sah
